Unison

Representatives of the public service union Unison in Scotland handed over a petition with 20,000 signatures calling for a Scotland-wide review of the early years to Margaret Jamieson MSP outside the Scottish Parliament last week. The petition calls on the Scottish Executive to recognise early years education and childcare as a separate profession within the education sector and standardise qualifications. Carol Ball, chair of Unison's nursery nurse working group, said, 'We want ministers and MSPs to conduct a thorough review of the sector, recognise it as a separate and valued profession in its own right and make recommendations on career development issues.'
