The union has been in dispute with local authorities over pay for the last five months and many nursery nurse members took part in a series of one-day strikes. Key groups of workers were called out on strike in November but have now been asked to return to work.

Unison will be negotiating for a minimum wage, weighting towards the lower paid and a potential increase in the councils' most recent pay offer. Joe de Paola, Unison Scottish Organiser for Local Government, said, 'The members' wishes have driven us throughout this dispute. Their action in the strikes has pushed employers to add to the offer. Once we have clear indications from the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities we will put the full offer to all members.'
