Vote for pay action by nursery nurses

Nearly 5,000 Scottish nursery nurses have voted to take industrial action in their campaign for a review of their pay. The ballot of nursery nurse members of the public services union Unison in Scotland was carried out between 25 April and 9 May, and involved sending out 4,500 papers. There was a 64 per cent return, with 90 per cent voting to support both strike action and other action short of striking.

Carol Ball, chair of Unison Scotland's nursery nurse working party, said, 'The result shows the strength of feeling among nursery nurses. Our pay has not been reviewed for 15 years, and our claim was submitted more than 18 months ago. We have had a number of demonstrations of public support, submitted a 20,000-signature petition to the Scottish Parliament and lobbied parents, councillors and MSPs. After the latest employers'
