Unison's bid for a new grading structure

Unison's bid for a new grading structure and higher pay for local authority-employed nursery nurses across Scotland has been thrown out by the employers' organisation, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities. CoSLA said it did not have the right arrangements in place to deal with a national pay claim on behalf of any specific group of workers, and that nursery nurses' pay and conditions should be tackled as part of the single status agreement for all council employees. Carol Ball, chair of Unison's nursery nurses' working party, said, 'We do not accept CoSLA's view that nothing can be done for nursery nurses. We will continue our campaign and make it clear to local authorities that we are not going to go away.'
