The entrepreneurial team behind Active Learning are looking to raise the bar for nursery chains when they expand beyond their flagship London nursery next year.

Driven by founder and CEO Bill Zuckerman, an ex-Ernst & Young partner, Active Learning wants to create nurseries that stimulate a love of learning and education. The four partners are sole stakeholders and include heavyweights of the industry, Amanda Johnson and Nick Boteril, the co-founders of Teddies Nurseries.

Operations consultant Ms Johnson came on board the project because she believed passionately in Bill Zuckerman's vision. 'I felt the nursery sector had gone very stale,' she says. 'I was only interested in being involved with something that was fresh and different from what I was doing before.
