Value of a job

I am an NNEB-qualified nursery nurse with more than eight years of experience. I was recently seeking part-time work to see me through my Childhood Studies degree. I was offered a job in a nursery which, after speaking to my last employer, decided to 'push the boat out' and offer me the top salary of 5 per hour. (With all due respect to the nursery, this is above average in private nurseries.) I had to turn this down in favour of a job paying 6.50 an hour maintaining photocopiers. What sort of system is it that awards more pay to unqualified manual workers than to qualified, experienced educators and carers of precious children? Jo Stirling Leeds
