Views sought on RE changes

* A non-statutory national framework for religious education in England has been produced by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) at the request of the Department for Education and Skills. The QCA said its aim was to clarify standards in religious education, promote high-quality teaching and learning, and recognise its role in pupils' spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. A section of the consultation booklet shows how RE helps children as young as three with the Early Learning Goals.

The QCA said the framework would support local education authorities and the standing advisory councils on religious education that draw up local RE syllabuses,.

The consultation document is on the website www.qca.org.uk. Responses should be sent by 5 July either by e-mail to religiouseducation@qca.org.uk

or post to Religious Education Team, QCA, 83 Piccadilly, London W1J 8QA.
