Views sought on schools shake-up

A massive shake-up of early years provision that could see the closure, merger or relocation of 11 of Glasgow's pre-five schools is to be the subject of consultation by the city council. Dwindling pupil rolls and ageing buildings have left the council struggling to keep its early years provision up to date. It has launched 11 consultative proposals, ten of which include the replacement of existing schools with a new building, while the eleventh involves the closure of Braeside Primary School and the pupils transferring to Castleton, Tormusk or Windlaw primary schools in the city.

A council spokeswoman emphasised that this was the early stage of a consultation process and that no decision would be made until January.

The council has said its primary schools need 151m worth of repairs and argued that it was more effective to rebuild some schools from scratch.
