As a participant in the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) Quality Counts scheme, I am keen to hear if it has received the award. Did I say participant? I think that may be rather an exaggeration. I signed my letter of commitment in February 2002 and had a fleeting visit from my mentor three months later. She left me with three assignments to complete in seven weeks. Unfortunately, as manager of a small nursery, I am rarely supernumerary and therefore, while trying to fulfil my administration work as well, I did not manage to complete the assignments.
So, before my mentor's next visit, due in July 2002, I spoke to her PA and explained the situation. I expected her to contact me, so I waited - and waited. I had heard nothing by November, and to my disappointment I discovered that Quality Counts had been reviewed and changed. I spoke to a representative at the NDNA to express my disappointment at my experience.
