Inspired by the philosophy of Reggio Emilia, settings in the South West linked up with artists and cultural centres to explore new ways of developing creativity. Wendy Scott reports Three years after exhibitions in Exeter and Bristol on early years care and education in Reggio Emilia, practitioners across the West Country remain inspired by the Reggio approach. One such scheme influenced by the Reggio principles is a research project known as '5 x 5 x 5 = Creativity in the Early Years'.

Three years after exhibitions in Exeter and Bristol on early years care and education in Reggio Emilia, practitioners across the West Country remain inspired by the Reggio approach. One such scheme influenced by the Reggio principles is a research project known as '5 x 5 x 5 = Creativity in the Early Years'.

The project, which began last autumn, has involved five early years settings, artists and cultural centres working together in clusters. Its aims are to demonstrate ways in which creativity and innovation can be fostered in, and with, young children, and to influence early years practice by establishing creativity as an essential foundation for early learning.
