In our authority all council employees are going through a local government single status job evaluation scheme. It has been developed jointly with employers and unions nationally to grade all former manual and APT&C local government jobs on a common basis. Factors common to all jobs have been identified and are to be assessed and scored. They come under the headings of knowledge and skills, responsibilities, effort demands and environmental demands.
In schools heads must assign their employees to job groups and the employees are asked to sign in agreement. Next employees are invited to briefings. A job group representative must be chosen by the employees. Then the group fills in a 40-page pre-evaluation questionnaire which is then signed off by the head of the representative. The representative then attends an evaluation interview which is carried out by job analysts using an approved computerised scheme. A point score will be determined. After this a new pay and grading structure will be set.
