Provide a small-world version of the story.

Resources

A train set; construction equipment; natural resources such as pebbles and pine cones; exotic toy animals. (It may be difficult to replicate the characters in the book exactly, but any wild animals will suffice)

Play possibilities

* Setting up the train set to replicate the adventures in the book.

* Using the construction equipment and natural materials to create the scenery.

* Retelling the story.

* Creating new versions, with additional animals.

* Sorting and classifying the animals.

Things to do and say
