Winning out

Hundreds of readers entered our competition to find ways to transform their early years settings. Catherine Gaunt presents the winning entries. Last October Nursery World challenged its readers to devise ideas to transform their outdoor space, and over 200 early years settings took up the challenge. Now we can announce that the overall winner is Pinner Wood First School and Nursery in Pinner, Middlesex.

Last October Nursery World challenged its readers to devise ideas to transform their outdoor space, and over 200 early years settings took up the challenge. Now we can announce that the overall winner is Pinner Wood First School and Nursery in Pinner, Middlesex.

The judges were impressed by the school's commitment to outdoor provision and the extent to which they had provided interesting activities and experiences for the children in their care with only limited resources.

Two summers ago, the school relocated its reception classes to give the children access to an inner quadrangle, part grass but largely covered with tarmac.
