Women in Britain earn almost 100 less per week than men - even though they make up almost half of all employees, according to a survey by the union GMB. It found that 48.9 per cent of the workforce is female and that their average wage is 383.40, which is 97.28 less per week than the average male. In Wales and Scotland, women make up 50.3 per cent and 50.4 per cent of employees respectively. The report also found that women outnumber male employees in 92 of 203 local authority areas and that the biggest discrepancy in pay was in the City of London, where women's average wage is just 58.4 per cent of men's.
