Words to the wise

Top Notch Nannies has produced what it calls a free fact sheet for nanny employers, entitled 'The Joy of Nannies'. The eight points listed include, 'When you hire a nanny you must be confident in your own mind that she is a good, safe one. You do this by interviewing her, checking her references yourself by telephone and by observing her with your children.' Another is 'Always respect the nanny's working hours. One of the biggest complaints we hear from nannies is that parents regularly come home late without warning and without offering extra money or time off in lieu. You can do that a few times but after awhile nannies will feel used and resentful and will pack their bags.' Is this what you want employers to hear? Are they facts? Are nannies a joy? What do you think an agency's role is? Share your views with us at Professional Nanny.
