Taking place on Wednesday 10 December (or any day during December), the event asks children to wear a festive hat or bobble hat for the day in return for a donation towards the counselling service ChildLine.
Once a school has registered for Bobble Hat Day they will be sent a link to a range of online resources, including a Bobble Hat lesson plan and instructions on how to make festive hats.
Supported by celebrities such as Peter Andre and Dick and Dom, the event is being launched to support the NSPCC’s Call for Help Appeal. The funds raised will go towards ensuring ChildLine is able to offer support and hope to the thousands of children and young people expected to make contact this December.
According to Ginny Donnelly, NSPCC schools fundraising manager, a child contacts ChildLine every 20 seconds and last December the service carried out nearly 23,000 counselling sessions for children looking for support and advice. The service will be open throughout the festive period to respond to children and young people across the UK and Channel Islands.
