Yoga programme stretches staff skills

Staff at the Happy Child nursery chain are the latest to benefit from a yoga training programme developed for practitioners to use with children under five years old.

Around 160 staff from settings around the country have taken part in theYoga4 Nurseries programme, which teaches skills to safely use yoga withyoung children.

The training proved so popular with staff at Happy Child that thetraining day last Sunday was oversubscribed, and another event is beingorganised for an additional 20 staff early next year.

Yoga4 Nurseries is an accredited training scheme with learning outcomesequivalent to level two on the National Qualifications Framework. Yoga4runs courses for practitioners working with infants aged between sixmonths and two years and for those working with two- to fiveyear-olds.

Tracey Storey, chief executive of the Happy Child Group, said, 'Yoga andmassage were areas of interest for both parents and staff. We felt itwas a good qualification for staff but also enabled us to offeradditional services to parents. Our staff thought the course wasfantastic and we've got another 20 who want to do it next time.'
