Our new set of awards will highlight the sector's best practice

The early years education and childcare sector has had a tough time of late - too many new initiatives, too much criticism and not enough money! And yet we all know that there are many practitioners and organisations out there doing a fantastic job for young children and their families.

Dedicated professionals and innovative organisations deserve to be recognised for their achievements, and so we're delighted to be launching the Nursery World Awards 2008 - see the advertisement on the back of this issue of the magazine.

Nursery World caters for everyone in the early years community, in public, private and voluntary sectors, and our awards are similarly broad-ranging. We want to reward individuals - Nursery Manager, Early Years Professional, Early Years Teacher, Nursery Practitioner, Newcomer, Trainer and Childminder of the Year. We're looking for the top organisations - Nursery, Pre-School, Foundation Stage Unit, Nursery Chain and Local Authority Early Years Team of the Year. Awards will be given for the best initiatives - Working with Parents, Inclusive Practice, Team Development and Business Development. And the top resources for young children will win awards for supporting learning, development and enjoyment in any of the six areas of the Foundation Stage or for those from birth to three.

After some rigorous judging, there will be a fantastic black-tie ceremony at London's Hurlingham Club on 21 November.

So if you'd like to enter the Nursery World Awards, or if you want to nominate an individual or organisation, go to www.nurseryworldawards.co.uk for full details.
