LETTER OF THE WEEK - A GOOD INSPECTOR

It has been interesting to read providers' Ofsted experiences. I manage a purpose-built pre-school run by a parent committee. We recently had our Ofsted inspection.

Our inspector arrived soon after 9am and stayed until our after-school club closed at 5.30pm. Staff had been dreading the inspection for months, but she was a lovely inspector and immediately put everyone at ease. She explained the procedure, mentioned she would be doing a lot of typing on her laptop, observed the children, talked to many children and to all the staff, plus two parents. She also checked all our paperwork and policy documents.

She returned to give feedback and said what a lovely group we are and how there is such a nice atmosphere. We received 'good' in care and education and she made two recommendations, both of which I agree with.
