Opinion: The Minister's view - Goals for children and positive changes for all

Qualms about some controversial recommendations in the Rose Review of primary education are addressed by Beverley Hughes.

Following the Government's response to Sir Jim Rose's review of primary education, I want to take this opportunity to address some of the concerns that I know Nursery World readers have expressed about its impact on the sector.

We all know that the first few years of childhood are some of the most important of our lives. Young children learn through play, and it's important that they do so in a good, stimulating environment, with the support of warm relationships with adults who understand and care about them. The EYFS was designed to help teachers and professionals working with children to achieve just that. As part of our 2010 review we will be looking for feedback from you on how you think the EYFS is progressing.
