Nicola Lathey and Tracey Blake (Pan Macmillan, 12.00, ISBN 9780230766433)

Engagingly written, largely from a parent's perspective, this book is certainly worth directing your parents to if they want to gain a solid understanding of speech and language development and 'tune in' to their own children's needs. Author Nicola Lathey, who is a speech and language therapist, says that if readers only take one thing on board it should be this: Say What You See, as this is the most important technique that can be used with a child.

There are lots of case studies throughout, along with games and activities under the Small Talk Time sections.
