The Further Adventures of The Owl and the Pussy-cat

By Julia Donaldson and Charlotte Voake (Puffin, hardback, 10.99)

Former children's laureate Julia Donaldson takes up where Edward Lear left off in his much-loved rhyme, with the newlywed Owl and Pussy-cat curling up to sleep 'by the light of the moon'. But as they 'dream of mice, and raspberry ice', a crow sweeps down and steals the Pussy-cat's wedding ring. Their attempts to recover the ring take them across the sea to the Chankly Bore and on to the land of the Pobble with no toes. But what is that on her finger?

Lear's characters are in safe hands as Donaldson takes them on a new adventure, framed in the language and rhythm of the original poem. It's a story that children will love, particularly those who know Lear's rhyme.
