The grumpy old Giant of Jum is pining for 'a child on a dish' as they are 'yummy, yum, yum'! And the tastiest one of all is called Jack. He'd be nice, thinks the giant, 'if eaten quite cold with a side dish of beans for a snack'. But Jack and his friends don't see a scary giant – they see a magically tall man, who can retrieve lost balls and cats from trees. So, what will end up on the giant's plate?
This is a great take on the traditional tale, with excellent rhyming text and fun repetition for children to join ('Fum!' he said, and 'Fo!' he said, and 'Fi!' he said and 'Fee!'), and the idea of children being 'popped in a pie' or 'eaten with cream for dessert' should leave young listeners captivated. A real treat!
