Jade will finish her course in September.

Jade started her full-time training in August last year and is due to complete the course in September 2024.

I am proud to be a member of the team at Kids Capers Nursery in Crawley, West Sussex. Currently, I am dedicated to furthering my education by pursuing my Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification through Parenta Training. This journey follows my successful completion of the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner programme, also with Parenta Training.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE THIS PARTICULAR ROUTE, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO PURSUE STUDYING IN EARLY YEARS?

The decision to embark on a career in childcare and pursue my Level 2 qualification stemmed from my unhappiness with my previous retail job.

Encouraged by the positive experience my partner had with an apprenticeship, I was drawn to applying for one with its numerous benefits, particularly the opportunity to earn money while learning and emerge fully qualified upon completion.

Opting for early years education was a natural choice for me, fuelled by my passion for working with children. Having spent considerable time around children at home, I was encouraged by the prospect of working in a childcare environment while advancing my education at the same time.

The idea of earning a wage at the same time as gaining valuable qualifications, which would undoubtedly help my future prospects, greatly appealed to me.

I browsed through Indeed to explore nursery job opportunities in my area and came across Kids Capers, conveniently located within walking distance of my house. I promptly submitted an application for the position and to my delight, I received a quick response scheduling an interview with them in just two days. Following the interview, I was allowed to visit the nursery for a trial day on a specified date.

WHAT HAVE BEEN THE HIGHLIGHTS?

Embarking on this journey with little to no prior knowledge at first was daunting. However, each day brings steady progression, unique challenges and triumphs. There are moments when everything falls seamlessly into place, and I feel I have accomplished a great deal. Witnessing the children’s growth and development first-hand has been incredibly rewarding.

Knowing that I’m contributing to children’s progress and making a difference in their lives gives me a sense of fulfilment and purpose.

Having a strong management team and a supportive mentor are essential components of my experience. They provide valuable guidance and assistance whenever needed. Working alongside trained professionals daily, fosters growth, collaboration and skill development. It’s an opportunity to share knowledge, hone expertise and cultivate best practices in a busy environment. Having the support of my Parenta tutor has been so important too.

WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND CHALLENGING, AND ALSO HELPFUL IN OVERCOMING THESE CHALLENGES?

During my Level 2 studies, I was working fewer hours, so I was able to have ample time to focus on my coursework. However, when I progressed to Level 3, my hours increased, which gave me the challenge of striking the perfect balance between work and study.

Initially, I struggled with this adjustment, but thanks to the invaluable support from my tutor, I found my pace. She provided guidance, assisting me to map out my coursework, identifying areas for improvement, and steering me in the right direction.

If the provided time for coursework is insufficient, I now proactively request additional time from my manager. This approach ensures I stay on track with my responsibilities while prioritising my learning and development.

Additionally, actively participating in Parenta’s remote teaching and learning sessions has proven hugely beneficial, further enriching my educational journey.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER STUDENTS CURRENTLY STUDYING OR WORKING IN THE SECTOR?

If you’re currently enrolled in a course, whether it’s for professional development or personal growth, I would encourage you to stay committed and encourage you to keep pushing forward. While the journey may have its share of obstacles and moments of doubt, remember that every step you take brings you closer to your goals.

It’s natural to feel the weight of balancing responsibilities at home and work, perhaps even sacrificing some weekends for study sessions. However, I promise you, the dedication you demonstrate now will pay off in the form of a valuable qualification that will benefit you for years to come.

In times of struggle or uncertainty, don’t hesitate to lean on the support systems available to you, whether it’s your tutor, mentor, or manager. They are there to provide guidance, answer questions, and offer encouragement as you navigate through the challenges of your course. By seeking their assistance when needed, you empower yourself to overcome obstacles and stay on track towards success.

Speaking from personal experience, the process of achieving my Level 3 qualification has been incredibly rewarding, opening doors to new opportunities and paving the way for a fulfilling future career in childcare.

As I reflect on my journey, I’m contemplating the possibility of furthering my education by pursuing a Level 3 Team Leader course. However, I understand the importance of focusing on the present and giving my current studies my full attention before making any decisions about the future. Remember, each milestone you achieve is a stepping stone towards a brighter and more prosperous future.

Keep pushing forward, and never underestimate the power of your determination and hard work.
