This collection of papers makes a valuable contribution to the growing number of books that take a multidisciplinary approach to early childhood studies. It is an introductory text for students who are new to the subject and also for those wishing to develop their understanding of contemporary issues in early years. It covers the core topics clearly and thoroughly while providing challenge and complexity.

The book introduces readers to the possibility of multiple, but complementary, perspectives on the study of early childhood and has contributions from experts in health, child protection, special needs, education and children's rights. Each of the nine chapters begins and ends with a concise summary and identifies further reading and points for reflection.
