The Trojans Scheme has been awarded a Daycare Trust Parents' Employer of Choice Award 2005 at a ceremony at 11 Downing Street.
Employer of Choice Award 2005 at a ceremony at 11 Downing Street.
The award is for the south London out-of-school provider's family-friendly work practices which include:
* Time off in lieu for working additional hours
* Individual contracts based on total hours, so staff can tailor work to their family needs. For example, one employee takes a Friday off every month and works longer on other days
* A loyalty day off for every year of service - some staff now have 10 loyalty days on top of annual leave
* Staff who are ill, or staff members' ill children, are offered free alternative therapies or counselling.
Trojans director Jackie Nunns said, 'We see it as good business sense because our staff are very loyal as a result. The cost of recruitment, training and helping to settle a new staff member is very expensive in comparison.
'Our staff turnover is 35 per cent lower than the sector national average.
Our committed workforce gives us stability which in turn leads to the quality of provision that is the hallmark of the organisation.'
