Childhood obesity may be caused by a genetic mutation and not overeating, according to scientists at Cambridge University who found that certain genetic mutations already known to cause disorders such as autism and learning difficulties were also linked to obesity. They say their study, published in the journal Nature this week, could affect the decisions of social service departments to take obese children into care.
