Criminal Records Bureau checks in England and Wales are only part of the picture in assessing staff and managing child protection effectively, National Day Nurseries Association chief executive Rosemary Murphy warned last week. She said, 'Alongside CRB checks, nurseries must thoroughly check references from past employers and have stringent management of staffing issues, well thought-out nursery policies and up-to-date child protection training in place. CRB checks are essential and turnaround times must improve, but nurseries must remember that no system is infallible.'
