Launched this month by the group of 15 settings, the academy is designed for individuals looking to develop their career within the early years sector.
It is being led by Jamie Atkins, a former primary school teacher and forest school co-ordinator, and Pru Barwood, who manages Fennies’ apprenticeship programme. The pair will create content and communicate on behalf of the nursery group’s education team.
The academy consists of four elements:
- A Development Hub - providing internal training and professional growth to staff, covering topics from child development to leadership skills.
- Work placements for Level 1, 2 and 3 students attending college, as well as work experience opportunities for school pupils.
- Apprenticeships – the nursery group currently offers Level 2 and 3 apprenticeships, however the plan is to expand over the next year to include higher levels, leadership progression and to move into other functions of the business.
- A graduate scheme – the two year-scheme provides new graduates and current Fennies' staff with the opportunity to experience all departments of the business. The scheme will be tailored to each candidate depending on their experience, qualifications and career goals.
Barwood, academy lead, said, ‘Through the academy, we offer specialised training for anyone aspiring to work within early years, no matter which route learners choose to take or the qualifications they wish to achieve.’
