Formal response published

The government has published its formal response to its consultation on its database scheme to register those who work with children and vulnerable adults.

Both paid and unpaid workers will be vetted via the IndependentSafeguarding Authority. The response has been produced jointly by theDCSF, Home Office and DoH. The scheme will go live in October 2009 andanyone judged to pose a risk to children and vulnerable adults will bebarred from working with them. Employers who recruit anyone not a memberof the scheme will be penalised, with fines of up to 5,000. Theresponse is available at www.dcsf.gov.uk/consultations.
