The Giant Wiggle sponsored walk for nurseries, children’s centres, childminders and families will be held on 19 March.

Money raised from the Action for Children event supports the charity’s work with vulnerable children and families.

Last year 30,000 under-fives took part in more than 750 wiggles across the UK and raised £80,000 for the charity.

The event is inspired by and supported by the best-selling children’s book The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Launching the 2015 event in Covent Garden, television presenter Laura Hamilton, from A Place in the Sun and Beat My Build, said, ‘The Giant Wiggle is a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to get involved with a charity that helps other children, having fun with their friends at the same time.’

Last year’s best fundraisers were Busy Bees, whose south-east England nurseries collected more than £33,000 for the charity.

Their fundraising events included sponsored teddy bear parachute jumps, cake sales and raffles. They received a visit from the Very Hungry Caterpillar along with Action for Children’s community partnership fundraiser Emma Lawrence at the Westminster nursery.

Nursery manager Lindsay Garstin said, ‘Fundraising is extremely important to us as a company.

‘We also like to encourage our children to care about one another and to think about the many ways we can help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

‘Our children and parents genuinely love to get involved in our charity events and we can’t thank them enough for their endless support.’

All of Busy Bees’ 237 nurseries will be taking part in this year’s Giant Wiggle.
