In brief...Three of the five teachers

Wednesday, May 23, 2001

Three of the five teachers at Wee Ones nursery school in Wandsworth, London, suspected of having tuberculosis (News, 17 May) were given the all-clear at the end of last week. Merton, Wandsworth and Sutton Health Authority stressed that no-one visiting the setting is at risk of contracting the disease. Public health consultant Dr Emma Robinson sought to allay concerns over the screening process and diagnosis. She said, 'In line with national guidelines and in consultation with other professionals, a decision was taken to screen at six weeks only to avoid unnecessary distress to the children and as the case concerned was probably most infectious in the last month or so.'
