* Ways in which children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties can be effectively engaged with schooling, either in school or at home, are the focus of Nurture Groups in School and At Home: Connecting with Children with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties, published by Jessica Kingsley. Nurture groups are specially designed classes that cater for pupils having difficulties in adjusting to the requirements of mainstream classrooms. * 'Making Children Smile' is a new DVD from the Pre-school Learning Alliance, featuring children's favourites such as Postman Pat and Angelina Ballerina. For each DVD sold at 8.99, 5.50 will shared between the Alliance and NCH to help vulnerable and underprivileged children across the UK. The two charities are aiming to raise 250,000. The DVD is available from supermarkets and high street stores.

* A set of free factsheets for lone parents has been published by One Parent Families Scotland, updating essential information to April 2007, including benefit and tax credit rates, the new extended maternity rights for working mothers, and other details on the range of financial and childcare support available for parents returning to work. * Professionals working with families that include children with disabilities could benefit from Mothering Special Needs: A Different Maternal Journey. The book explores the experiences of mothers raising a child with a learning disability, including interviews with mothers of children who have an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Down's syndrome.
