However, could I plead with Lena and Nursery World not to use the term'nought' for the newborn baby.
Nobody is 'zero'. Though 0 is entered on computers to record data, inlife I think that we should acknowledge the immense amount ofdevelopment and learning that the baby has already achieved in the womband which they bring with them into the wider world at birth.
Using 'nought' is not really reflecting the commitment on respect in theEYFS guidance under the theme 'Positive Relationships'. The frameworkitself uses the term 'for children from birth to five'. I hope we canall remember to do the same.
