Lucky 13th Nursery

The Old Station Nursery has had its 13th nursery opened in the LAFitness gym at Waterside South, Lincoln, by local MP Gillian Merron. OldStation managing director Sarah Steel said, 'LA Fitness approached us asthey wanted a professional childcare company to take over the running ofthe childcare facility, turning the building into a full day carenursery for children aged nought to five.' Children will be encouragedto eat healthy meals and take part in French classes and musicsessions.

Outstanding in all

St Peter's nursery in Halstead, Essex, was awarded an outstanding gradein all areas in its Ofsted inspection in September. Inspectors commentedon the nursery's outstanding leadership and management, their stronglinks with the reception class at the school where the nursery is based,and their ability to introduce imaginative and adventurous play,focusing on the nursery's wood area.

Rainbow Library

The Book Start Bear visited Rainbow Children's Centre in Kidderminster,Worcestershire, to launch its new library in partnership with thecounty's library service. Children and parents from the centre and StMary's Primary School will have access to a wide range of books and besupported with a range of activities, including art and craft and storytelling sessions.

Childminder of Year

Sharon Mornin from Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, has been named Cow andGate Childminder of the Year, run with the Northern Ireland ChildmindingAssociation. She was presented with an engraved Tyrone crystal trophyand a cheque for 500 at the finals at Malone House in Belfast. MsMornin was nominated for the prize by three parents whose children arein her care. They praised her for providing a fun and loving atmosphereand an inviting home for their children. The five runners-up for theaward were Teresa O'Reilly from Enniskillen, Linda Foster from Armagh,Sandra Wilson from Strabane, Angela Manning from Belfast and EthnaMcCluskey from Bangor, who each received an engraved runner-up trophyand a cheque for 50.

A spin in the teacup ride was one of the highlights of the opening dayof Green Ark Children's Centre in Devonport, Plymouth. Children fromneighbouring primary schools were invited to the event, which includedface painting, storytelling sessions and arts and crafts. The centre isopen five days a week, offering the Noah Ark's Nursery and Talk andToddle and parenting classes.
