Nurseries are invited to take part in the National Day Nurseries Association’s Healthy Body, Happy Me campaign this month.

The annual campaign, running on 24 - 30 March, celebrates the great work that nurseries do to promote healthy lifestyles and ensure children get the best possible start in life with healthy food and physical activity.

Each day of the Healthy Body, Happy Me week long campaign has a special theme with ideas and activities for nurseries to use. They include - ‘outdoor fun’, ‘go germs go’, ‘football fun’ ‘out and about’ and ‘family time’.

On Friday 28 March from 7:30-9:30am, nurseries taking part in the campaign will participate in ‘Breakfast time’, where children, parents and staff will enjoy a healthy, nutritious breakfast together to highlight the importance of starting the day right.

The week is being supported by a number of companies, including Hope Education, Dettol and Kellogg’s, as well as Little Kickers, a pre-school football programme and Citation, an employment law and health and safety compliance specialists.

Purnima Tanuku, chief executive of the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA), said, ‘With regular news headlines about rising levels of child obesity and long-term health problems, helping children and their families understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle is more vital than ever. This year’s Healthy Body, Happy Me campaign is packed full of ideas and activities to help demonstrate that adopting a healthy lifestyle is easy, has long-lasting benefits for health, well-being and learning and is, most importantly, fun. By giving children a good start, nurseries are sowing the seeds for them to lead healthy lifestyles in the future.’
