See what nurseries across the country have been up to.

ALL OVER THE WORLD

Children from ABC Early Learning and Childcare Centre in Staffordshire dressed as Australian surfers, Spanish senoritas and Frenchmen for their 'people from around the world' topic. They also tasted typical food and listened to traditional music from different cultures.

FORTY YEARS ON

Countesthorpe College Day Nursery in Leicestershire celebrated its 40th anniversary with a bear hunt and a picnic for children and staff. During the event, the children also helped make a commemorative plaque that will be displayed on the premises.

CARING FOR BABIES

Little Tinkers Private Day Nurseries in Hipperholme and Brighouse, Calderdale, West Yorkshire, held a fundraising open day to raise money for new equipment in the special care baby unit at the Calderdale Royal Hospital.

FIGHTING FIRES

Children at Snapdragons Nursery in Atworth, Wiltshire, were thrilled to welcome the Wiltshire Fire Service to the setting for some fire safety training. The firefighters brought uniforms for the children to put on before taking them on a guided tour of their fire engine and teaching them about how fires can be put out.

HOW MY GARDEN GROWS

Members of the gardening club at Happy Child Nursery in Shepherds Bush, London, got stuck in digging up the potatoes they had cultivated in the nursery's growing area. The children also picked ripe fruit from their strawberry plants, and ate them for tea.

A ROYAL VISIT

Phoenix Montessori Nursery in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester last month. The Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, High Sheriff of Lincolnshire and other dignitaries also attended the event, and were met by the nursery's principal, Clare Harris. After singing to their guests, the children presented the Duchess with a framed collage of self-portraits they had made.

DOWN AT THE FAIR

Horseshoe Day Nursery and Pre-School in Esher, Surrey, held a summer fair to raise funds for the children's charity Shooting Stars. Activities on offer at the fair included a lucky dip, a penalty shoot-out and cake decorating. Visitors could also go on a bear hunt in the nursery's grounds.

HANDS ON THE BALL

Busy Bees Nursery in Milton Keynes enjoyed a visit from Bobby White, the goalkeeper and captain for the 2012 Olympic GB handball team, who came to teach the children some ball skills.Nursery manager Alana White said, 'We were very lucky to have Bobby White in the nursery, as he is very busy training for the 2012 Olympics at the moment. The children loved all the fun activities, and Bobby was great with them. We wish him and the team luck for next year. Everyone at the nursery will be cheering for them.'

A WORTHY CAUSE

Staff at Early Years Childcare in Worthing, West Sussex, raised £116 for Sussex children's hospice Chestnut Tree House from their stand at Worthing Fire Station's open day. The staff team offered face painting and sold balloons and refreshments to visitors.
