GETTING INTO THE OLYMPICS MOOD

Children from Treetops' Hopscotch Nursery in Chester got in the Olympics mood when Margaret McKeegan, an Olympic torch bearer, visited their nursery with the torch. The children had been preparing for the event by making their own torches and holding their own Olympic games.

TORCHBEARER VISIT

Children in the care of registered childminders Emma Blackmore and Kelly Davies from Melksham, Wiltshire, watched the Olympic Torch pass through the village of Southwick, Trowbridge. The children enjoyed waving their flags before having a picnic party to complete the celebration.

BOAT TRIP ADVENTURE

Pre-school children from Kids Planet Day Nurseries in Lymm, Cheshire went on an adventurous boat trip along the town's Bridgewater Canal. The boat is owned by one of the parents who suggested this activity. The children enjoyed waving at other boats and feeding the ducks.

WORKING WITH WOOD

Children took part in a woodworking session organised by Sue Radcliffe, a childminder in Oldham.

They made their own bug houses with blocks of wood, and used screwdrivers, hammers, electric sander and saws. The children had a practice session with polystyrene and golf tee pegs to get used to hammering. Their parents also took part by telling them about the risks of the tools they were using. Jon Dean, and his son, Joseph (pictured above), were among those participating.

21ST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Staff at Rainbow Nursery, Barkston Ash, Tadcaster in North Yorkshire held an open day on the occasion of the setting's 21st birthday. The staff and children celebrated the week leading up to the birthday by having tea parties and making party decorations.

A celebrity guest joined children from Busy Bees Nursery in Bromborough and their parents to celebrate the launch of their new garden area. The children met Mr Bloom from CBeebies and explored the stepping stones, balance beams, climbing walls, and sensory planting.

The event raised £350 for The Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust.

SUMMER FAIR

Children's Choice Nursery in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear, organised a summer fair for the first time. The event raised £1,603 for charity Scope. There was a grand raffle, stalls, games, refreshments, face painting and a bouncy castle.
