A DONKEY COMES TO VISIT

Children from Asquith Moortown Nursery in Leeds had a surprise visitor to the nursery - a donkey called Simon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Stables Daycare Nursery in Tonbridge, Kent celebrated the setting's 20th anniversary with a party. Children and their families were treated to live musical performances including a medley of Abba songs by members of staff.

SAFETY FIRST

Nursery on the Green and Pre-school in Frimley Green, Surrey welcomed a visit from its local fire brigade during Child Safety Week (18-24 June 2012). Along with learning about how to fight fires, the children were also taught about stranger danger by the community's police force.

FOOTBALL CRAZY, FOOTBALL MAD

Children from Aga's Little Stars, a Polish-English childminding setting in Newcastle Upon Tyne, got into the spirit of Euro 2012 by making their own trophies.

The Greenwich Pre-School Alliance (GPLA) held its fourth annual teddy bears picnic in the grounds of Charlton House in Greenwich. A marathon race for children, parents and staff was also organised as part of the event, attended by the mayor of Greenwich - councillor David Grant.

CHARITY FUNDRAISING

The North Craven Community of practitioners in North Yorkshire held its first annual event to raise money for children's charity Barnardo's. Children from Chipmonks @ Giggleswick Day Nursery, Giggleswick Junior School, Giggleswick Playgroup, Fredas Playgroup and Settle Primary School, all in Settle, North Yorkshire, raised over £900 for the charity.

ARMED FORCES DAY

Tops Day Nursery in Wareham, Dorset (top), Nithsdale House Nursery in Pollokshields, Glasgow (middle) - part of Little Einstein's - and Little Acorns in Washington, Tyne and Wear (bottom), marked Armed Forces Day on 30 June 2012. The settings enjoyed visits from members of the Armed Forces which proved a great learning experience for the children.

MINI TORCH-BEARERS

As the Olympic torch makes its way to London, children at Stone Eden Nursery School in Carlisle, Cumbria and Springfield Lodge Day Nursery in Swanscombe, Dartford held their own torch relay races.

SCARECROW COMPETITION

Romanby Pre-School and Cabin Crew after-school club in Northallerton, North Yorkshire created a regal scarecrow for Northdale Horticulture's competition. The children, aged four to 11, even made a corgi dog to join their Queen scarecrow.

Nurseries can raise money by collecting used baby food pouches thanks to a new scheme launched by Ella's Kitchen and TerraCycle.

Settings can earn two pence for every food pouch they return, which are then recycled into affordable eco-friendly new products such as watering cans, waste bins and garden benches.
