One-off tax-free sum from HMRC can now be claimed by pregnant women

A one-off tax-free sum of 190 from the HMRC can now be claimed by all women who are at least 25 weeks pregnant. The Health in Pregnancy Grant, launched on Monday, is available for expectant mothers to spend as they choose when they fill out a form available from their midwife or doctor. The funding is intended to raise infant birthweights in deprived areas and help prevent diseases developing in later life (News, 13 September 2007).
