Parents' guide to the EYFS now online

A guide for parents on the Early Years Foundation Stage has been published today by 4children.

The summary of the framework has been developed with parents and the Department for Education to ensure that parents know about the EYFS.

It has been developed following a recommendation by Dame Claire Tickell in her review, for parents to be given a brief, simple explanation about the EYFS and what they can expect from professionals working with their children.

4children worked with groups of parents around the country to develop the guidance.

Feedback from the groups was overwhelmingly in favour of a guide that was accessible online, rather than a flyer that could be easily lost, and that there should be information about what children are learning.

The guide is designed so that early years settings can personalise it and include their own messages for parents.

It also provides ideas about how parents can support their children’s learning through sharing different activities, from planting seeds to talking about the different shapes of packaging in the supermarket.
