Spotlight on ... Caroline Holt, Manager, Little Red Day Nursery

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Name: Caroline Holt

Position: Manager of Little Red Day Nursery in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire

- How did you work your way up from cleaner to nursery manager?

I started cleaning at the nursery where my step-mum worked in 2002. Occasionally I would help out at dinner time, which led to a position caring for the oneand two-year-olds and doing my Level 3. Shortly after, I took a job at the Old Fire Station Nursery and was made assistant manager. After six months I was promoted to manager at the owner's new setting, Little Red Day Nursery.

- Have you always wanted to work in childcare?

Yes, but I never thought it would be possible. It was a real shock being promoted to nursery manager last year, but I am so proud of my achievements, particularly as I am a single mum.

- What are your future plans?

I've just started my Level 4 in Management and hope to go on to do my Level 5. Interest in the nursery is growing all the time, despite the large number of settings in the area.
