Position: Owner of Kendor Day Nursery in Croydon
- When did you open the nursery?
We officially opened on 5 July but because of the summer holidays, we have just started getting children. At the moment we have nine children and 16 places available. Everything is going really well and I am so pleased.
- Why did you want to open your own nursery?
It's always been a dream of mine, but I wanted to build up my experience working in the sector. I thought the house of my grandparents, who sadly passed away, would make an ideal nursery and rented the premises from my uncle who had been living there.
- Did you have any difficulties setting up the nursery?
I applied for planning permission in October last year but it was refused by the council because of concerns from residents over parking and traffic. However, after speaking to people in the community and with the help of Croydon North MP Malcolm Wicks, I was granted planning permission in March.
