The visit was organised by the Forum of Private Business as part of their Business Buddy scheme, a project that puts politicians and other key government decision-makers in touch with businesses in their constituency. The purpose of the visit was to understand some of the challenges and rewards facing the nursery.
What did you get out of the experience?I talked to staff at the nursery about their work and how things could be improved by more effective public policies. However, the main beneficiary was me as I got a better understanding of how the nursery works, and the children drew me a special card which is now proudly on display in my office.
Which issues did the nursery flag up as affecting them?
Staff at the setting suggested that more flexibility is needed in delivering government support for childcare.
