Spotlight on ... David Stevens, nursery manager

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Name: David Stevens

Position: manager at London Early Years Foundation (LEYF), Angel Community Nursery in Westminster, London

- You've worked for the LEYF for the past 15 years; what is it you most enjoy about your job?

It's challenging, exciting, fun and fulfilling. I enjoy working with children and their families and meeting different people. There are so many opportunities working for LEYF. It's great being part of an organisation that is so innovative and supportive.

- What qualities to you bring to the nursery?

I bring a balance as a male role model for the large number of boys in our setting. We have four male staff and three female staff, which I believe makes it less intimidating for dads.

- Have you always wanted to work with children?

When I was made redundant in my twenties I decided I wanted a career with purpose. It's funny, as after I started working in a nursery, I came across a careers test from school that said I should either be a policeman, gardener or nursery nurse.
