Spotlight on ... Jill Robey, nursery school head

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Name: Jill Robey

Position: Head of Nottingham Nursery School in Radford, Nottingham

- How did you feel about being awarded a gold Go4it award?

I felt very pleased and proud. Our deputy and senior teacher, who are both forest school trained, and I went to the awards ceremony held on a boat on the River Thames in London. The award - a silver 'Oscar' - will take pride of place at the nursery.

- How did you hear about the Go4it awards?

An Ofsted inspector who does consultancy work for HTI (Heads, Teachers & Industry, a leadership organisation for educationalists), the organisers of the awards, paid us a visit and suggested we enter to become a Go4it school. It recognises schools that encourage an innovative approach to embracing challenges and opportunities, and to take risks rather than wrapping children up in cotton wool.

- What activities do you do at the nursery school?

We do woodwork, forest school activities, snail races, hatch chicks and make mud pies. Staff get just as messy as the children.
