Position: Deputy manager at Rotunda Nursery, Kirkdale, Liverpool

How did you feel when you received the 2012 Adult Learner of the Year award?

After I got over the initial shock, I felt proud that my achievements had been recognised.

Why did you decide to do a degree in Early Years Childhood Studies (EYCS)?

I was working at Rotunda and had done my Level 3 and Level 4. I had the chance to then go to university to do EYCS.

How do you juggle your studies with work and family?

It has been difficult. Because my children are a lot older, I sometimes go to the library to get some work done. Going to university has been fantastic for me. You're learning the basis of childcare and child development and going into depth with that. I can apply it in my role. You also meet a lot of people like myself that have gone back into education.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced?

Having a job as well as fitting in the study time. My manager, Cynthia Heath, is always there to support me. That's important. In the end, the degree in EYCS will be promoting the nursery.
