The Big Picture: Edinburgh city centre becomes a big play area

Friday, August 3, 2012

Children and their families in Edinburgh enjoyed playing with water during National Playday on 1 August.

To mark the annual event, a celebration of children's right to play, Edinburgh City Council transformed the Grassmarket in the city centre into a giant children's play area for the day. Activities included sand and water play and parachute games.

Councillor Paul Godzik, children and families leader, said, 'Play is such an important part of any child's development, and our playday provided a fantastic opportunity to celebrate it and promote its many benefits.'
