London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) has introduced a bicycle scheme across all its 39 nurseries.

Bikeworks, a not-for-profit social enterprise, has donated 200 bikes to LEYF since their partnership began in 2018.

The latest addition of 16 bikes will be shared across all LEYF’s settings.

The two organisations now plan to get all London’s children active and curb childhood obesity by calling on the Mayor of London and Transport for London to provide all children with access to a bike.

June O’Sullivan, LEYF chief executive, said, ‘Many children, especially those from deprived neighbourhoods, do not have access to a bike at home. As obesity skyrockets, we want action to help address the country’s biggest public health crisis – and what better way than learning how to ride a bike?’
