The Old School House Nursery in Newmarket has become the first early years setting to achieve platinum status from Investors in People (IIP), an internationally recognised accreditation.

Platinum status was awarded to the Nursery following online feedback from 28 members of staff, 1 to 1 interviews, meetings and observational visits. Assessors measured the setting’s performance against the nine indicators of the IIP standard and found Old School House to be ‘high performing’ across every category.

The report by IIP praised the use of supportive leadership practices, the individual attention given to members of staff, and the nursery’s focus on personal development.

Interviewed members of staff were found to be very enthusiastic about working for the nursery and feel motivated to achieve and continually improve.

The environment was described as ‘supportive’, with an ‘open and transparent culture’.

This accreditation is the highest awarded by IIP and represents the international standard for people management, support and leadership.

The award recognises outperforming organisations worldwide and is currently held by only ten UK employers, from over 14,000 IIP accredited organisations internationally.

Linda Baston-Pitt, founder of Old School House, said, ‘Investors in People estimates that only 0.01 per cent of businesses could achieve platinum status, so we’re all incredibly proud of the award which represents a culmination of many years of hard work.

'It also serves to inspire us to continue challenging our thinking and ways of working within the early years sector about what really matters to, and for, children.’

Lisa Weston the nursery manager added, ‘Our people are at the heart of our success and we will continue to listen to them for ways to improve.

'Motivated and talented staff are essential to the future of the Old School House, and providing high quality childcare services to our families.

'We want every member of staff to feel proud to be part of The Old School House team.’
